Oral Habits

Oral habits in children can cause disarrangement of teeth and should be corrected in time. Different types of habit breaking appliance are used to control these habits.
Thumb Sucking
Upper front teeth and often the upper jaw are pushed forward while the lower are displaced towards the tongue. It is usually consider as normal habit till the age of 3 due to response to fear factor and should not be forcefully stop this habit which can cause other psychological effect to child.

Lip Biting
Upper incisors are push forward, lower teeth are pushed back and spread slightly.

Tongue Biting
Upper front teeth are pushed forward often, though not as much as in the previous case. Lower front teeth may be depressed, leaving an open bite.

Mouth Breathing
Nasal obstruction as by adenoids and tonsils cause protrusion of the upper front teeth and a narrow jaw.
