General Instructions
- Regular Check ups
- Any medical problem, allergy, medication should be inform prior to treatment
- If any discomfort, pain, swelling, sensivity to any treatment should be reported before treatment or any problem after the treatment must be reported
- Any doubts must be clear with dentist regarding the treatment.
- Proper brushing before treatment starts
- Always better to eat food before treatments, may not able eat for at least 2-3 hrs after treatment and usually not to take any hard food for 48 hrs
- Patient should be on time and instruction have to be followed properly
Information should be given to dentist
- Past experience of any discomfort, fainting, bleeding, allergy to any sort treatment should be reported to dentist before any procedures.
- Medical problems should be informed before hand
- High or low blood pressure
- Heart Disease
- Any medication
- Pregnancy
- Gastric Problem
- Kidney or liver disease
- Any infectious disease like HIV, Hepatitis, tuberculosis
- Past medical disease and therapy
- Allergy to any drugs
- Diabetes
- Bleeding disorders
- Any other medical problems
Instructions:
After Filling (Restoration):
General Consideration for fillings:
- Not to chew hard things for 48 hrs
- Not to eat for at least 3 hrs after treatment
- If any leakage, sensivity, dislodgement, pain, swelling, discomfort, etc inform dentist
- Proper and regular brushing and oral hygiene maintenance
Glass Ionomer Cement Filling (GIC)
- Should not drink or rinse for 3 hrs after restoration
- May require to polish the rough surface of filling after 24 hrs in dental office
- Proper dental brushing required
- Not to use hard brush which cause wearing off of restoration especially on the side of the teeth
- Not to take sticky things such as chewing gums which cause filling to come out
Miracle Mix
- Avoid especially chewing gums or sticky things
Composite Restorations:
- Not to chew pan, gutkha, cigarette which can stain the teeth
- Not to drink staining products such tea, coffee on that day
Temporary Restorations:
- If pain, discomfort, or swellings should take painkillers and report to dentist
Crown and Bridge
- Not to eat for 3 hrs after fitting
- Avoid eating hard and sticky foods for 2 days
- Inform if it is loose or rocking
- Inform if it is high, discomfort, pain
- In case if it came out not to fit it by own and have to brought to dentist, any delay in treatment may not fit the crown
Extractions and Surgical Procedures:
- Should take food before extraction procedure because patient may feel dizzy during or after treatment
- May not able eat food for 3 hrs after treatment
- Patient should bite gauze with betadine for ½ hour to avoid bleeding and facilitate wound healing
- If bleeding occurs gauze piece soaked with betadine should be place on the area bite and it should be changed one after another as per required. Ice packs can be also used to stop bleeding. If bleeding still continues inform dentist.
- If pain after treatment; painkillers prescribed by the dentist should be taken, if pain doesn’t subside inform dentist. Not to put hand on swelling or pain on affected area which can warm the area can cause more swelling. Instead of that we can use ice packs in cloth to be placed on that area.
- Not to use pipes or straw which can open wound and cause bleeding on that day
- Avoid tenacious work on the day of surgery and may require as per informed by dentist
- Take normal glucose water if dizziness on that day of procedure
- Sutures placed should be removed after 7 days or as per informed
- Should not gargle or rinse on day of treatment; and require to gargle with betadine or antiseptic mouthwashes 2-3 times a day for some days to prevent infections
- If any doubt or discomfort or emergency please inform dentist
- Should take antibiotics and others drugs as per instructed or in any problem, allergy, or inefficiency with medication should be reported to dentist
- Teeth may need to be replaced 6 weeks after the removal of the teeth to prevent unnecessary movement of the teeth
- May require to take antibiotic as prescribed
- Should not smoke or consume alcohol for some days during antibiotic period or as per instructed
During Medications:
- Inform on before hand if any allergy to drugs
- Should not discontinue drugs by own later bacteria will be resistant to that drug
- Should be taken as prescribed by doctors
- Antibiotics should not be taken by self
- Some antibiotics may cause diahorrea, discomfort and weakness and can ask dentist for suggestion
- Should not take alcohol during antibiotic course
- If drug is ineffective should be inform to doctors
Dentures:
- Clean dentures per day with brush soap and water and kept in water at night or when not use. Chances of minor shrinkage are there if not done so.
- If any discomfort or pain, pricking by sharp edge or rough should be reported to dentist. Prolong use of such denture can cause ulceration or sore mouth, foul smelling, etc
- If patient is not able to chew properly or if it is high, it should be adjusted in the clinic to prevent any TM Joint problem or it can cause fracture of denture or teeth
- If denture is fracture or broken all the parts should be brought to clinic. Any sort of adjustment by him/her is not advised and will make more complicated for dentist.
- When new denture is inserted it will take some time to get used to it, old denture wearer will fill that there old denture is better than the new one.
